The Index of General Affect was used to measure caregiver satisfaction with caregiving encounters before and after training that included bio-medical information on Alzheimer's type dementia and religious symbol re-presentation (based on Susanne Langer's theories). Contrary to expectations, satisfaction scores were high after the initial encounter and declined significantly after both types of presentation. The study suggests further areas for research to discern reasons for high initial satisfaction and the reduction in satisfaction after training."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Boston University"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["2d58bd09-76d0-4970-b257-d55229e0173e"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717076453031936,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:12:32.610Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:43:06Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:18:51Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"3c5ac33a-564f-4b08-81ae-747f20574c20","accessControl_ssim":["2e3c5c45-d95f-4ae3-86ce-115033c7dc9b"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Faith journey: a method of teaching Bible study to long-term care residents diagnosed with mid-stage Alzheimer's Disease"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:43:05Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:52:50Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["fdff53a3-6a33-4fba-aef3-be01e9739090"],"hasLease_ssim":["297becae-2f7d-4adc-a189-b4ecfadc0e69"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Carroll Saussy"],"year_tesim":["1999"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. It presents an experience of group spiritual direction. In group spiritual direction a small group comes together to share life's journey, and to understand more deeply the place God has in life. A homogeneous group of adult children of Alzheimers's victims met for six weeks. The focus of the sharing was based on the third week of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola. The third week exercises draw the person's attention to the Passion of Christ. Being united with the suffering of Christ gave meaning to our own suffering with Alzheimer's Disease. Our parents were good people: why did they have to suffer so heinous a disease? The literature informing the dissertation project centered on the disease of Alzheimer's the scriptures prayed in the third week, and the question of suffering. The role of the caregiver is essential. Being aware of the needs of the patient is only part of the knowledge needed to live with Alzheimer's Disease; caregivers must be in touch with their own needs. The caregivers must be keenly aware of the importance of balance in their own lives in order to take proper care of the patient. Transcending suffering occurred when the group united their sufferings with the sufferings of Christ."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717207751524352,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:14:37.827Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":6,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
