Using insights and approaches from feminist, womanist, and other liberation theologians, it also strives to remember Jesus more clearly in his economic, political, and religious context. At the heart of this theological reconstruction is the conviction that Jesus offers salvation by making God’s “shalom justice” real on the earth through the entirety of his ministry, death, and resurrection. Each aspect of Jesus’ life, including the cross, demonstrates God’s ultimate solidarity with those who are oppressed and violated, as well as God’s capacity to bring forth healing and life out of suffering and death. This salvation is not only individual but lived out in communities which join in God’s work in the world. Thus, we find salvation in “shalom justice households” which embrace and continue Jesus’ work for liberation, justice, and shalom."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com","martins02@moravian.edu"],"_version_":1851860320587350018,"timestamp":"2025-12-18T15:27:05.316Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:03:41Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T18:52:30Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"7b0a2b8d-705f-42dd-a217-05df52d5ef64","accessControl_ssim":["83c25f2f-112e-4b80-ae56-0132c732436f"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Guatemalan Mennonite women at prayer : religious heritages and social circumstances shape the prayers of Ladina and Q'eqchi' women"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:03:40Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T18:46:45Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["6dd9893e-b2ee-4f42-9a27-462fc1d0cb63"],"hasLease_ssim":["f16549fd-55c6-4261-ae1c-2f76e1b62d36"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["DMin"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Lancaster Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["2004"],"video_embed_tesim":[""],"location_tesim":["Guatemala"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. This dissertation investigates how the spoken prayers of first generation Mennonite Ladina and Q'eqchi' (Maya indigenous) women in Guatemala reflect and integrate their Maya and Roman Catholic heritages, as well as their life realities within situations of violence, prejudice, recent civil war and poverty. The dissertation includes, as background for the investigation, brief descriptions of early Maya and recent Guatemala history, and sixteenth century Anabaptist history and thought. The investigation was carried out through personal interviews conducted with forty women, in either Spanish or Q'eqchi' language; the recording of prayers in the interviews themselves, various church services, women's gatherings and retreat settings; and bibliographical research. The data from the interviews and prayers was compiled and analyzed through the creation of lists of content and themes which occured most frequently within the interviews and prayers, and their comparison to the most prominent aspects of Anabaptist, Q'eqchi', and Catholic faith heritages and the life realities in which the women live. The findings indicate that, in part, these Guatemalan women and the early Anabaptists share analogous social and spiritual life circumstances, and that Anabaptist understandings of the Gospel are being inculturated into their Q'eqchi' and Ladina culture and way of life. What is more, the Guatemalan Mennonite women's prayers, with their own accumulated spiritual depth and heritage, and the inclusion of cultural practices that are consistent with Christian faith, enrich the Anabaptist practice of prayer."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"identifier_tesim":["https://www.proquest.com/dissertations-theses/guatemalan-mennonite-women-at-prayer-religious/docview/305097815/se-2"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Lancaster Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["77231467-10ce-4737-858a-8cc38e70a4f9"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1851873245373923328,"timestamp":"2025-12-18T18:52:31.353Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:02:08Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:25:49Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"f6617ced-90b0-4940-bc26-08361294c408","accessControl_ssim":["1f619e73-4d54-471c-b93d-a0cf469255c8"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Equipping Selected Members of Big Canoe Chapel, Big Canoe, Georgia, to Integrate Specific Disciplines of Prayer Modeled in Scripture"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:02:07Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T05:10:08Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["247e5272-4059-462e-83fa-a42aab0dee7d"],"hasLease_ssim":["176fac0a-a79f-4b88-9073-8fd8cbc9ecac"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Hal Stewart Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2022"],"location_tesim":["Georgia"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Through this field project, these individuals were identified, equipped, and presented with opportunities to preach God’s word in their own setting. The two foci of calling and preaching were essential to answer the research question. Members of Massey Place Community Church interested in learning to preach were invited to participate in the study. Seven people responded. A six-week introductory course was conducted to teach about calling and how to prepare and preach a biblically-based sermon. We found that people were being called to preach, and four of the seven actively engaged as lay preachers. The question at the heart of this research project, “could lay people preach effectively in the Sunday morning service?”, was answered in the affirmative; there were laypeople that God called into the role of occasionally speaking from the pulpit. Further to that, this significantly benefited the life and growth of the church and positively impacted the individuals who preached."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Tyndale University"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["602e7e7c-0b8b-4e09-af87-84c66ff49c48"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133710364442624,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:23:36.824Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:41:57Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:52:21Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"552bf6f4-16bf-4ee0-ba67-6bf48dcbd5ec","accessControl_ssim":["a655561f-0a22-4a8b-abcf-b7de93156857"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Lamenting youth, believing youth : the role of biblical lament in the faith formation of Mennonite adolescents"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:41:56Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:37:51Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["87da28ff-61d4-44b1-a17c-88c35cc8e080"],"hasLease_ssim":["e4b26f69-7458-4c61-bc29-0037723a40b7"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Jaco J Hamman","Christopher B Kaiser"],"year_tesim":["2007"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. There is a proliferation for a 'feel good' attitude in our American culture that denies or limits constructive expressions of lament, but strives for success and accelerated achievement. Theologically, our society narrowly views God as a therapeutic being who 'helps us' when we need to feel good. Mennonite youth are not immune to the societal pressures and various mental health concerns that persist. Lamenting Youth, Believing Youth explores the role of biblical lament in faith formation and pastoral care of early, middle, and late Mennonite adolescents as a response to contemporary cultural realities. The thesis of this Doctor of Ministry project is that Mennonite pastors and youth workers will be motivated to engage youth in expressions of biblical lament by enabling youth to write their own prayers of lament. After describing a theology and understanding of biblical lament, I then explore how regular engagement in practices of lament will aid in the faith formation and pastoral care of adolescents. The method I used to investigate this thesis was to equip three different youth pastors to lead members of their junior and senior high youth groups through a series of timed-writing prayer exercises of lament. In addition, one pastor led this same practice with his young adult church group, while I conducted it with a college youth ministry class comprised mainly of young adults. Observations were then made from the questionnaires that adolescents in this study completed, as well as from their voluntarily submitted prayers of lament. I discovered that young people were comfortable engaging this prayer discipline and appreciated the opportunity to express their emotions to God."],"license_tesim":["https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"related_url_tesim":["https://repository.westernsem.edu/xmlui/handle/1866/1591"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c24f9e0f-f5f0-45a3-b7f1-6a406c6902fb"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135520022069249,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:52:22.648Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:22:31Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:39:45Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"882d0a86-4d2d-4f52-be58-6795df1cd0ce","accessControl_ssim":["b2aee8ec-e579-4ec2-9cb5-7580e001e86f"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A Discovery of Confessional Accountability Practices of Leaders in the Brethren Church Denomination Based in Ashland, Ohio"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:22:30Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:08:25Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["56c956ca-0e45-4514-9eb4-56455c39673c"],"hasLease_ssim":["7c01adaf-4ade-4736-add3-327bcbe7ae94"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Ashland Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["2019"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The project director based the process on Hugh Townsend’s Set the Journey: a Strategy Development Model for Associations. The director enlisted a team composed of Baptist leaders – Both bivocational and fully-funded – from across the state. The primary goals of the process were to: (1) create a “Bivocational Pastors Profile,” (2) determine “best practices” within other state Baptist Conventions, (3) develop a finalized strategy, and (4) present the strategy to appropriate leadership for both approval and affirmation in order to proceed with implementation, albeit outside the scope of the actual project. The project relied on survey data and a professional strengths inventory together with focus groups composed of pastors and spouses at six regional Dialogue Dinners. The team merged accumulated data along with practices of various state Baptist conventions in order to arrive at a proposed strategy addressing three primary needs: (1) developing relationships between bivocational pastors and Baptist entities, (2) strengthening ministry marriages and families, and (3) developing the spiritual discipline of prayer."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5e492469-490e-44a3-90c1-17560a603bc2"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791124905463382016,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:03:39.816Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"D.Min.
