The assimilation process means building committed members. The primary result was that both old and new members discovered a nurturing environment within the context of the larger institutional church. A twelve-week, supervised, self-study course was designed to deal with this need.  The course consisted of twelve weekly themes presented in cassette tape lessons, each one divided into five daily sub-topics; a workbook; and a transcript of the tapes. The key ingredient in this was the sponsorship program. Each trainee signed a commitment to sponsor a new or inactive member. The method pursued to gather data for this study was personal interviews guided by a pre-tested, uniform questionnaire. The conclusion reached was that the above thesis is true. Its primary purpose was to determine the extent to which members and attenders of a large suburban church were being incorporated into its life and organizational structure.  A research questionnaire and a series of interviews with church members who had dropped out of active involvement with the church were the research tools used to gather data, the analysis of which was used to determine the degree of assimilation.
