Using Wesleyan baptismal and sanctification theologies and covenant renewal service, the author created a baptismal reaffirmation service to be applied to the worship and baptism at Hyosung Central Methodist Church. The author used sermons to teach the meaning of baptism, decorations in the baptismal hall to help believers recall their baptism, and the baptismal reaffirmation service to physically use water to emphasize the importance of sanctification. The Zimbabwean United Methodist Church is continuing to experience considerable numerical and spiritual growth. However, pastors do not have educational resources which are adequate to train new members and mature old ones. The preparation of candidates for baptism and confirmation is identified as a critical need and the project focuses on developing materials to be used by pastors in this preparation. The intent is to equip pastors with teaching strategies and tools (rather than lesson plans), and material is compiled from historical and biblical perspectives. Resources utilized include conversations with district superintendents and pastors, surveys of church members, and archival material accessed in Zimbabwe. Project Associates and Consulting Faculty assisted the author in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation phases of the project.  Implementation was carried out in a six month period at Immanuel United Methodist Church in Elida, Ohio.  Six case histories were analyzed to evaluate the effectiveness of the materials and counseling sessions. Four sermons on baptism were preached during implementation. The involvement of the lay leadership of the congregation also led to a sense of renewal in the life of the church.  A nine month period of time provided ample opportunity for relationships to develop based on the tradition of the church and with specific people in the local congregation.
