This thesis examines the biblical validity of mentoring and andragogy, and assesses the effect of a self-study, andragogical mentoring course, written by the researcher, on the mentoring commitment and competency of Australian Baptist church leaders. Forty leaders, including seventeen pastors, completed the course and were tested both before and after the course for their mentoring ability (commitment, knowledge and skills). Despite this fact, there is no accessible, up to date source of recorded history. This dissertation attempts to address that need. This will be done by writing a concise history of North Carolina Baptists that will condense over three hundred years into thirty pages. Following this, a script will be written in order to convert this concise history into a video for our image conscious culture. A deficiency in understanding of North Carolina Baptist history will be documented using two tools. One, a survey of the ministerial employees of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina will be compared with the same survey given to key leaders in North Carolina Baptist life. A second tool used will be phone interviews with leading Baptist educators and historians at institutions of higher learning in North Carolina supported by North Carolina Baptists. An extended period of church conflict marked by multiple church splits resulted in a negative inward focus and the subsequent loss of morale and mission. The director facilitated this process by leading the church through a visioning process which culminated in the writing of a church mission statement.
