The Foreign Misison Board (FMB), an auxiliary of the NBC-INC, was given the responsibility to implement the initiative. After the FMB gathered pertinent information, it planned and implemented an HIV/AIDS Leadership Empowerment Conference in South Africa July 4-9, 2004. The teaching component consisted of seven sessions which were taught in three distinct learning domains in select believers' lives. Inspiration is drawn from two Baptist proponents of the Social Gospel, Walter Rauschenbusch and Tommy Douglas. Eight sermons were presented in a Canadian Baptist congregation. The sermons tested strategies for preaching three aspects of God's reign: kingdom present, kingdom challenge and kingdom hope. The metanarrative of the kingdom holds potential for bringing together false divisions that have developed in the church.
