It takes the position that science and faith, even evolution and creation, are not incompatible but can strengthen one another.  The first chapter tracks the rise of tension between science and religion.  Chapter two examines essential strands of the Christian doctrine of creation with special emphasis on the theologies of Barth, Tillich, and John Cobb. This project tested the hypothesis by means of a series of planning sessions designed around major points of Barth's ecclesiology.  Each of these sessions consisted of lessons on the nature and mission of the church followed by periods of program analysis and planning.
