In this thesis it is emphasized that the work of the Holy Spirit in preaching is the foundation to make preaching possible. One of the major problems in preaching is its dryness and weakness, for preaching deals with dry biblical exegesis on the cognitive level rather than spiritual crisis. This project combines practical suggestions for more effective and powerful preaching, supported by the Holy Spirit, with an understanding from perspectives based on biblical understanding on the work of the Holy Spirit in preaching and in writings of John Wesley and Karl Barth. The major work of the Holy Spirit in preaching is to make the objective reality of revelation the subjective reality; consequently, preachers and audiences come to believe the text is written for them and overcome the purely cognitive level in preaching. The conclusion is that the inclusive understanding of the work of the Holy Spirit in preaching helps preachers to overcome dry and weak preaching."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Claremont School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e7e2d3cb-fc51-4ba5-a7fd-d43f3f8c150b"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132282522697728,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:00:55.128Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:39:57Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:21:56Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"348408c9-39a8-4b15-a67c-8aa1b796a450","accessControl_ssim":["edae5749-4e63-47ef-9da7-5910f0756805"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Recent views of the revelatory character of the Bible and their implications for its interpretation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:39:56Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:39:11Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["0204ada4-d83b-484d-82da-640c9a491f2d"],"hasLease_ssim":["c1005ed2-8cb4-404d-8988-d0f7fd2c2cf1"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Cynthia M Campbell"],"year_tesim":["1993"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Blake K Richter"],"publisher_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Henry, Carl F H, 1913-2003","Schüssler Fiorenza, Elisabeth","Barth, Karl, 1886-1968","Inspiration","Bible--Criticism, interpretation","Biblical interpretation","Schleiermacher, Friedrich, 1768-1834","McFague, Sallie","Sobrino, Jon"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The premise of the study is that how the Bible is understood to reveal God has an impact on how the Bible is interpreted. The basis for a twentieth-century hermeneutic is explored through Barth's 'Epistle to the Romans,' in which he posits that the hermeneutical key to Paul's letter is 'krisis.' Included is an exploration of Charles Gerkin's works on hermeneutics in pastoral care with theological emphasis. Crises stories from six persons and a biblical story are analyzed in group session by the methods obtained from Gerkin.
