When encountering such challenges, faith formation becomes an important instrument by which one may integrate the characteristics of Catholic faith in individuals and encourage concrete services within the local Christian community.  For effective faith formation, Basic Ecclesial Communities (BECs) are a primary means of formative activity.  To respond to ministerial needs within the INdonesian context, this thesis proposes a program of adult faith formation for BECs.  The 'program' refers to the praxis of process of developing faith formation based on contextual needs. A praxis that involves dialogical and critical reflection and discernment on the fellowship around the meal table, the table of the Word of God, and the table of the Eucharist.  This undertaking aims to bear fruit in an enlivened Christian discipleship that is solidly grounded in the Word of God, enriched with cultural values, celebrated in meaningful Eucharistic worship, actualized in charity and solidarity, and in the work for justice and liberation, reconicliation and peace. An integral faith formation n the context of Basic Ecclesial Communities (BECs) is offered consisting of such elements as pakikisalo kay Jesus (partaking of Jesus's life), and pagsasalo sa jhapag ng kagandahang loop ng Diyos through pagsalo (partaking in God's bountiful banquet of grace through the exercise of collective responsibility, solidarity, and communion). Using participation observation and interviews, it analyses two types of parish prayer groups, which embody the separate inculturation of the gospel into indigenous Fijian and Indo-Fijian cultures, and finds them inadequate. In my paper I show how lay leadership understands their role is crucial to the living out of Christian mission within a congregation.  When a congregation's leaders become distracted by other issues the direction of ministry can easily be derailed.  This can lead the congregation away from the purpose of Christian mission.  By keeping lay leadership, and thereby the entire congregation, focused on mission, God's will in the world can be carried out.  2.  It is of paramount importance to help keep the congregation focused on the mission of evangelism.  3.  This paper is written using the style format contained in: Kate L. Turabian, A Manual for Writers of Term Papers, Theses, and Dissertations, Sixth Edition (Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 1996). 4.  A needed healing process was begun at the congregation. This study focuses on the relevant issues, resources, and experiences which led to the implementation of basic communities in a particular parish.  This  thesis is biographical in style as it tells the story of a people, a parish, and a process that gave birth to smaller communities of faith. Considerable attention is given to the core group who was primarily responsible for the study and formation of the base communities.
