It examines the use of 'story' in preaching; examines the homiletics of George Buttrick, Fred Craddock and Eugene Lowry as a basis for comparison with biblical character preaching; shows the details required for using this form of proclamation; and demonstrates the intense Scriptural reflection which character portrayal requires.  The practicum was conducted over a three-month period using members of the Arapaho United Methodist congregation to provide evaluation on the presentation of two characters: Jacob and Joseph of Nazareth. James"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Systematic expository preaching through individual books of the Bible increases one's factual biblical knowledge and challenges believers to put their religion to work in a practical way, e.g. social action ministry. Eight sermons were preached from the letter of James.  A pretest and posttest on the book revealed an increase in factual knowledge after the sermon series.  Each message was discussed and suggestions were given on how it could be applied in practical ministry. Homiletical literature was studied and three methodologies were chosen as the basis for six sermons on texts from Romans.  The sermons were evaluated by a committee of lay people.
