Psalms","Preaching--Study and teaching","Bible--Criticism, interpretation, Literary","Literary form"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project examines whether genre-sensitive sermons on the Psalms should elicit stronger affective, imaginative, aesthetic responses than propositional sermons on the Psalms, proposing that since Psalms are poetry they work differently in sermons than do prose texts, which may be more amenable to propositional preaching. Based on research in Psalms scholarship, poetics, speech, homiletics, and theology, the project devises preaching strategies appropriate to the genre in order to prepare, present, and evaluate response to five propositional and five genre-sensitive sermons. Applying criteria for authentic expository preaching derived from biblical and current literature to 14 sample sermons prepared by seven Korean Seventh-day Adventist preachers, the project determines that only two of these sermons are expository.
