In accomplishing such a needy task, I start with a brief survey of the history of Haiti to establish the sitz im leben, followed by a biblical defense for the project, and some literature reviews. To flesh out the project, I design a seven course module to train Haitian pastor-leaders in the following concentration: 1) A comprehensive approach to Bible reading, 2) Overview of the Bible (Old and New Testament), 3) Overview of Christian doctrine, 4) Introduction to some major events of Church history, 5) Introduction to Christian leadership and social ethics, 6) Introduction to preaching principle and practice, 7) Introduction to pastoral counseling and Christian ethics. These courses will explore personal, relational emotional, spiritual, and social (P.R.E.S.S.) aspects. This dissertation is divided into three main parts. A literature review examines what has been written about the founding of other Bible institutes along with the Bible institutes' contribution to the discipleship process. The research procedure defines the case study subject selection process and criteria. It also describes the survey questionnaire and its use. The case studies report the information gathered primarily through first hand interviews and local archival church records. The data was recorded, reviewed and reported so that any church that wishes to start a Bible institute may use this dissertation as a guide to address and overcome the challenges they may face. This project concluded that Bible institutes can contribute to a church's discipleship program. Participants can get a thorough and meaningful exposure to the Word of God, which, in turn, helps in their personal spiritual growth and ministry preparedness. Future research is welcomed in this field. Though an ample body of literature exists concerning the history of Bible institutes and Christian education as a whole, little information has been written that specifically addresses the challenges faced by churches starting Bible institutes and how those challenges were overcome.
