It is exacerbated today because of an unbalanced reliance on the historical-critical method and on a unhealthy trend toward the privatization of faith.  We can recover the story of our lives, the biblical narrative that is identity-shaping.  To do so entails the use of an inclusive hermeneutic, one which draws us into an intentional dialogue with the text and with one another. This project was designed to investigate the adult-learning literature and then produce a computer-based Bible study program that would interest and motivate the user to further investigation of the Bible's contents and message. The adult-learning literature survey yielded significant principles that were applied to the formulation of scripts and storyboards for a computer learning system called 'Tune in the Bible.'  This computer program was produced using the IBM development software, 'Linkway Live!'  Twelve participants were employed to review and evaluate the content, effectiveness, and operation of 'Tune in the Bible.' A survey instrument was administered prior to and following their use of the program. Many aspects of the adult-learning model can be successfully transferred to a computer-based learning system. This training is needed because many people do not know how to study the Bible for themselves.  Research involved three main areas: discipleship, leadership and training, and small groups. Biblical and contemporary sources on each topic were researched. Two groups received the same material on the book of Amos.  The traditional group was more passive and, consequently, did not learn as much.  The CAI group was more active in the learning process, and their scores were better. The project will be conducted over an eight-week period.  The students will read collateral readings prior to each session, and interact with a reading-discussion guide which is designed to focus attention on the specific principles to be learned.  The project will be evaluated by means of a pre-test and a post-test, which will be given to those in the project group and a group of students of similar ability who will not engage in the project. A parent evaluation of the project and a Bible test for children did not validate the hypothesis, but they did indicate that parents would welcome help in teaching the Bible at home.
