A great number of people, however, are not being reached for Sunday school because they are not attracted to the traditional approach of many churches. The purpose of this project was to offer an alternative to the traditional class. Working from the assumption that many people would be interested in Bible study without the pressure of studying quarterlies, reading in class, and answering questions, the author developed the class. Two methods of study were employed in the development of the class: a study of current trends in evangelism and church growth was conducted; and, an in-house survey of current church members and a survey of the community were conducted. It was discovered during the process that a need existed for an alternative Sunday school class. The pastor's class became that alternative."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["dacf5c07-78c8-4937-a01a-26cd044f9625"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135159420977152,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:46:38.752Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:57:04Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:55:52Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"3756c684-b11e-4047-af2a-f72cc3df111e","accessControl_ssim":["b7c77889-aee2-4f64-b5cd-b6f87e09d386"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Developing a plan for personal Bible study for the members of First Baptist Church, Augusta, GA"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:57:01Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:44:16Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["df2559f5-0061-49be-ad1f-058a111ac7e3"],"hasLease_ssim":["acf866e8-9fe2-4016-af95-1515e8acc3ca"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Southern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Charles B Bugg"],"year_tesim":["1993"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Reece B Sherman"],"publisher_tesim":["Southern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["First Baptist Church (Augusta, Ga)","Bible--Study"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this ministry project was to aid church members in developing a personal Bible study plan and to enhance their skills in studying Scripture. The primary strategy for accomplishing the project's purpose was to develop a structure for equipping leaders to conduct and expand small home Bible study groups at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Once the new groups were launched, the author supervised or coached the group leaders and co-leaders as they led three home Bible study groups. This strategy has provided the structure by which these Bible studies will have a multiplying effect throughout the congregation as new groups are formed. It has aided in the development of strong interpersonal relationships and personal and spiritual growth for the author and participants."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e59d8a7f-b140-41e1-9d1f-4e98aaa1d973"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131388940910592,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:46:42.942Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:47:37Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:45:10Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"c6e7efc4-b36d-4887-95a6-487afeb8a583","accessControl_ssim":["8b23ab18-d500-4f3f-9088-1d0f4a41e437"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The user-friendly Bible: discovering the shapes of scripture in congregational Bible study"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:47:36Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:50:36Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["e6b0a7cd-27be-4130-bf0f-a28c1f4e69a9"],"hasLease_ssim":["b620833d-b568-4f77-8f0d-d40a08a9c40d"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Candler School of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["John H Hayes"],"year_tesim":["1992"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Victor M Wilson"],"publisher_tesim":["Candler School of Theology of Emory University"],"subject_tesim":["Bible--Criticism, interpretation","Bible--Study"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The Bible's hidden rhetorical structures, when exposed, can still be highly effective teaching models. The Bible's oral structure shaped its teachings in conventional patterns which influenced and pervaded Scripture thoroughly. This study tested and found highly successful the use of these visually portrayed literary macro-shapes in engaging and enlivening faith among Bible study participants in a modern Presbyterian church.
