The author grewup in a Christian home and found Jesus at seventeen years old, and his spiritualgrowth was slow and steady for many years, but then stagnation set in. It was inthis period that he was introduced to spiritual disciplines, which answered hispersonal questions about spiritual growth, as their practice was the path tocontinuous, long-term spiritual growth. Every disciple of Christ has the privilegeof becoming spiritually mature, and when the proper path is taken, growth willhappen. “Speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect themature body of Him who is the head, that is, Christ” (Eph 4:15 NIV). The authoralso stresses how intentionality in the practice of spiritual disciplines is necessaryfor growth, which this paper will demonstrate is accessible and applicable to allChristians."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Tyndale University"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["602e7e7c-0b8b-4e09-af87-84c66ff49c48"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133816397496320,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:25:17.945Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:11:24Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:34:46Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"4398bbd9-27c2-4be5-b234-618ebef3623c","accessControl_ssim":["df964bce-d5de-4ed8-b0c0-8617e6fae1b3"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Flourish: Concepts, Commands, and Conversations for Common-Good Faith and Politics in the Church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:11:23Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:05:41Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["fdcb6135-f629-4e10-98c8-165d7d0d696f"],"hasLease_ssim":["ec8b0b7e-c53a-4ade-b997-df38b6d9efd1"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Ministry In a New England Context"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Jason McConnell D.Min."],"year_tesim":["2023"],"resource_type_tesim":["Dissertation"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Jonathan M Romig"],"subject_tesim":["Christianity and culture","Mission of the church","Bible--Use","Social action"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The author hypothesized that the direct teaching and discussion of the biblical concepts and commands of human flourishing and the common good would give Cornerstone Congregational Church in Westford, MA a theological framework for engaging civilly in faith and politics. Further, axioms derived of the research are organized to establish a system of tools that may be employed to equip an expositor to increase the quantity and quality of applicational content, improving communication of application in weekly sermons. The system, envisioned to encompass the techniques Rogers employs to navigate application, relies on analogous tools germane to early Adriatic sailing practices.Chapters 1-2 establish the premises on which the writer based his project. Chapters 3-8 research Rogers’ four techniques and develop his principles into Adrianic axioms for tooling. Chapters 9-10 express motivating insights, both practical and theological, behind the goals of the project. Chapters 11-14 test the expectations of the project in light of successes, examining the Adrianic tool set for weaknesses that might be bolstered for continued improvement of the system.Appendices 1-2 graph the research and parameters of datasets. Those feelings of abandonment result in their avoiding the church even if they have been raised in it, in religion shopping or choosing their own understanding of and way of relating to the divine over any religion, and in overt religiosity, Implications of this are that the men no longer identify themselves as children of God as defined by the Christian faith. For some, it means they have no relationship with God or with the Church as a whole or the congregation within prison walls. This work takes a look at prison as exile and exile as trauma using the exile and the trauma that resulted from it as described in the Hebrew Scriptures for comparison. The intervention is a Bible study based on narrative theology that inmates from a state prison created and that I facilitated and evaluated in a county jail. The study is titled 'Where was God?' It was created so men could hear stories similar to their own and recognize that those telling them are aware that God had been present in their stories and also explore where similar stories had occurred in Scripture. The authors chose ten topics to explore. They were: where was God when I was hurt, felt alone, felt ashamed, was afraid, was pretending, felt invisible, felt un-forgiven and was unforgiving, felt desperate and in despair. It concludes by asking where was God when I felt hope and when I felt love. The hope was that this would help the participants to see their own stories as part of a divine narrative, which would lead them to build a more authentic relationship to God and healthier relationships with others."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["7d2ba5b6-aeec-459a-aaec-e1eed75d32f0"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134364999876608,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:34:01.133Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:30:29Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:15:49Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"eda39230-ada1-48fe-80cd-102d7e9914c0","accessControl_ssim":["d83aec67-78f6-479a-9eb3-6bdba2aec875"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Helping Church Members Understand And Biblically Respond To Depression"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:30:28Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:55:12Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["59d86a27-cd60-465d-8d24-12815e10a5d3"],"hasLease_ssim":["2105d3d1-4bd3-4a8e-afd5-e833954b5a17"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Educational Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Biblical Counseling"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Cheryl Bell Dr. Ph.D.","Jonathan Kelena Okinaga Dr. Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2021"],"location_tesim":["Africa","United States"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Ed.Min. At times, depression results from exhaustion, anxiety, worry, and many bottled-up issues in people’s lives. People are depressed because they are unfulfilled in their careers, marital life, education, and plans. Unconfessed sin and wickedness of hearts can be the root cause of some depressive moods. When daily challenges become overwhelming and frustrating, people are spiritually drained and discouraged. What is needed for any individual struggling with a depressive mood is the Word of God through biblical counseling. Biblical counselors offer a compassionate heart and practical help through the biblical principles applied to the counselee’s life and situation.Christians (church members) are not immune from depression because it is real and can be overcome and conquered through reliance on the Holy Spirit and appropriate biblical principles. Biblical counselors should always keep in mind a holistic perspective of human nature. God created human beings holistically – body, spirit, and soul. When one part suffers, every other part suffers with it. Psychology, philosophy, and psychoanalysis (or psychotherapy) are human theories and philosophies that can only last for a short time. The Word of God (Scripture) is authentic, inspired, inerrant, sufficient, and authoritative for counseling tasks and is superior to anything the world’s wisdom offers. The Scripture has the power to change life and turn around situations. Regardless of the latest scientific discovery, research, and methodology, medical professionals still believe, according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), that ‘mental disorders’ including depression fall into such “diagnostic criteria” with a collection of symptoms known as syndromes. A syndrome is simply a collection of symptoms that a person is experiencing."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b2ad2862-737d-4dde-8145-b9b6962ac5f3"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133223559888896,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:15:52.571Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:09:39Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:33:29Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"86fbc4c8-ab10-46d3-a180-46c2c396c52f","accessControl_ssim":["fd833f36-b6bc-414d-a276-17eecabc2b3d"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["In-Depth Interviews with Predecessors and Successors on Cultivating Excellence in Leadership Transitions in the Ethiopian Kale Heywet Church (EKHC) Head Office"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:09:38Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:06:32Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["ceca99b8-b31d-424b-b2e6-30c8f6159bdf"],"hasLease_ssim":["331fec23-2db6-4e33-8aa3-b46be93b525e"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["D. This study took place in Ethiopia and explored the perceptions of the Ethiopian Kale Heywet Church (EKHC) leaders’ advice to ensure a biblically based and contextually appropriate leadership transition strategy in the EKHC head office regarding predecessors and successors. It attempted to answer what these leaders perceive will ensure biblically and contextually appropriate leadership transition strategies. The study used the qualitative research design of in-depth interviews with twenty respondents (10 predecessors and 10 successors) who were purposefully selected from EKHC leadership constituents. The findings showed that the following aspects are vital for the smooth leadership transitions within the EKHC Head Office: (1) succession plan, (2) developing potential or tomorrow’s leaders through mentoring and coaching, (3) an attitude of Christlike humility, (4) election season events, (5) discipleship, (6) appreciative culture, and (7) relationship gaps.Furthermore, based on the findings, implications were found for practical application in smoothening leadership transitions: (1) introducing and developing a succession plan, (2) developing leaders through mentoring and coaching, (3) building an attitude of Christlike humility in predecessors and successors, (4) improving election season events, (5) cultivating discipleship in the lives of leaders, (6) nurturing an appreciative culture, and (7) building relationship in order to make leadership transitions healthy."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130560250249216,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:33:32.641Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":23,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
