Project"],"creator_tesim":["Gamblin, Arthur"],"subject_tesim":["Lectionary preaching","Biblical studies","Congregations"],"abstract_tesim":["The problem in ministry which this project and report seek to address is that of developing a program of biblical and liturgical depth in a congregation which is culturally diverse, doctrinally varied, and highly mobile…In order to discover whether or not Bible study could be correlated with the lections for sunday worship in such a way that understanding of the texts would be heightened and the meaningfulness of worship enhanced, a group from Kobe Union Church was formed during Advent, 1977, to study the lections prior to each Sunday and to assist the Pastor in the planning of each Sunday’s service. A lack of space limits the number of student seats available, while tuition costs restrict access to families able to afford sky-high rates. Meanwhile, childcare teachers are paid low salaries for their services, and children living in poverty fall farther and farther behind. Such a challenge threatens not only a child’s livelihood, but also the congregation’s vision “that all may know God’s love.” This project will examine how the principles of adaptive leadership might reframe the congregation’s missiological understanding and practices via the work of education. It explores contemporary Christian scholarship regarding the Bible and women, children, and those living with physical or emotional disabilities and argues that patriarchy and ableism—in scripture and tradition—have long silenced marginal voices. Using examples from her own creative work, the author maintains that literary fiction can be a powerful tool to give voice to—and inspire—those who have historically been marginalized and ignored. The curriculum emphasizes Martin Luther’s doctrine of vocation and the Priesthood of All Believers, and contemporary theological treatments of vocation by Miroslav Volf and Daryl Charles.
