This field project sought to rectify this situation within a very limited population by studying the reality of oppression from a black theological perspective with the congregation served by the author. Introduction of black theology to a black congregation helped determine the impact of these concepts on black Christians and develop information that could be used to structure future lectures on black theology for black congregations. However, the black church is in danger of becoming disconnected from its historical and theological underpinnings.  This study helps black pastors and others involved in the music ministry to become more sensitive to issues related to the use of music.  The results of a sampling of area pastors and musicians revealed a need for greater pastoral leadership.
