This study examines whether the process of remythologizing the concept of God would be useful in aiding African Americans to form the church into a more suitable vehicle for economic, social, political and spiritual emancipation. African American theology must be a unique and authentic expression of the hopes, aspirations and needs of the African American community while at the same time remaining open to the ideas and promulgations of the global community. Chapter 1 illustrates Christianity was never intended by the slavemaster to serve as a liberation mechanism for the slave. Chapter 2 shows some early attempts by African Americans to remythologize the Christian message. Chapter 4 describes contemporary African American conceptions of God. Chapter 5, considering the history and present condition of African Americans in American society, provides the basis for remythologized synthesis."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Claremont School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e7e2d3cb-fc51-4ba5-a7fd-d43f3f8c150b"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131996311781376,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:56:22.176Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:43:57Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:48:57Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"e70f1623-cbfd-479c-99bc-7dda4976f678","accessControl_ssim":["dd996ca0-52fa-4e38-bb19-ccb1198bcb4c"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Portrait of pastoral care in African-American spirituality: toward a practical liberation-oriented Christian theological perspective"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:43:56Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:44:37Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["8b2d9ca1-deb8-4479-9999-e9ba57a0bc46"],"hasLease_ssim":["00f10c8f-216d-4b97-b599-e7d0b73f0844"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Christian Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Brian W Grant"],"year_tesim":["1991"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["R Anthony Lee"],"keyword_tesim":["Pastoral African American churches"],"publisher_tesim":["Christian Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Black theology","African American churches","Christianity","Spiritual life","African Americans--Religion"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["African-American spirituality must be used as a resource in the continued practice of pastoral care in both the parish and institutions of American society in responding to human brokenness. The Corinthian Baptist Church (Dayton, Ohio) Credit Union implements a consumer education workshop. The project is divided into four segments: 1) Deuteronomic covenant community, 2) community in Black theology, 3) stewardship in Deuteronomic and Black theology, and 4) principles of individual and communal financial management.
