The analysis of the current situation (questionnaire) finds a lack of meaningful involvement which the author traces back to the predominant middle-class orientation of the membership.  He confronts these findings with an 'ecclesiology of renewal' based on Bonhoeffer's concept of the church as 'being for others' and the ecclesiological implications of black theology as proposed by James C Cone. 'Tools' for evaluating that premise included: critical reviews by participants and observers, certain elements of black theology, and a Christian transformist's view of culture. This field project sought to rectify this situation within a very limited population by studying the reality of oppression from a black theological perspective with the congregation served by the author. Introduction of black theology to a black congregation helped determine the impact of these concepts on black Christians and develop information that could be used to structure future lectures on black theology for black congregations. This study helps black pastors and others involved in the music ministry to become more sensitive to issues related to the use of music.  The results of a sampling of area pastors and musicians revealed a need for greater pastoral leadership.
