Four categories of brokenness--divisiveness, arrogance, idolatry, and hardness of heart--gleaned through exegesis of Paul's letters to the Corinthians and the Ephesians are explored.  Five ways of knowing for women--'silence,' as well as 'received,' 'procedural,' 'subjective,' and 'constructivist' knowing--attributed to Mary Belenky and her research group are considered.  The methodology of the praxis circle, including the movements of formation, event, self-interest, theological assumptions, social science assumptions, and new praxis, is employed.  Ten stories based on interviews are presented. A perception-test instrument was used to measure perceived burnout among eighty SDA pastors in southern California. Demographic data was also gathered to compare various factors' effects on burnout perception.  Six pastors were invited to a three-day 'spiritual disciplines retreat.' Follow-up testing of both 'retreatants' and 'non-retreatants' was compared to test whether such an intervention had reduced perceived burnout among the test group.
