Many people have been seeking the Christian faith after obtaining religious freedom.  In today's China, thousands of people receive baptism without proper instruction about Church teaching and practice.  As a result, only a small number remain faithful to their baptismal commitment.  In considering today's new situation, I conducted interviews with catechists who have had experience working on this program in the diocese.  I think the Catholic Church in China faces two critical issues: 1) inadequate preparation for those who wish to be baptized, and 2) inadequate ongoing faith formation and communal support for those who have been baptized... The situation of the diocese of Bismark is similar to most rural dioceses in the United States. Integrating gender studies, rural sociology, rural catechetical ministry and contemporary leadership theory, this thesis-project maintains that leadership development uniquely focused for women in rural catechetical ministry will increase their sense of self as leader and leadership practices. The study gives voice to rural women involved in catechetical ministry as they expressed themselves in various sessions. Using Groome's method of practical theology, 'Shared Christian Praxis,' the author conducted a case study in a Chicago parish, meeting with adults at a separate location while their children took part in the catechesis. The Church passes on the Christian faith to its young, but it also receives new and valuable perspectives into its faith from the young. This paper seeks to explore systematically children's insights into the Christian message, drawing on the body of research and reflection accumulated by the international Catechesis of the Good Shepherd movement over the course of the past fifty years. It then asks how children's theology--named 'mustard seed theology'--can be of particular use to preachers. It reports the results of two sets of interactions with preachers around the question.
