The British school of object relations theory, especially Fairbairn and Guntrip, shows that 'splitting,' related to the introjection of the 'bad object,' is essential to a differentiated self. Psychopathology stems from rigidifying splits in the self. Healing depends on release of 'bad objects' in a transformational relationship, including transference with the therapist as 'good object.' An analogue, provided by Romans, is contact with Christ as 'good object'."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["fc8e637d-6b92-421f-936e-4844dc981265"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134622614028288,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:38:06.812Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:44:56Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:30:24Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"67e14d10-f397-4e21-8052-dd040fb9355d","accessControl_ssim":["6c9ddfbd-bdaa-41e0-a8fc-f940f09aa6ae"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Assessing the impact of secular consciousness-training and spiritual exercises on basic imagery (project)"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:44:56Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:10:19Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["130350fc-da37-4ca0-9926-b482093b8625"],"hasLease_ssim":["ff512d5c-760b-41f2-8892-e97d6a8e96c8"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Saint Paul School of Theology (Kansas City, MO)"],"advisor_tesim":["Robert Potter","Young H Chun"],"year_tesim":["1991"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["John J McCabe"],"publisher_tesim":["Saint Paul School of Theology"],"subject_tesim":["Change (Psychology)","Spiritual exercises","Consciousness","Imagery (Psychology)","Psychology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Positive changes in imagery take place with either secular consciousness-training or spiritual exercises, or both, but greater changes in imagery occur using only the holistic spiritual exercises, or both sets, rather than the reductionistic secular exercises alone, lacking images of God.
