A 'Life Map' is a contemporary term for a spiritual quest to make sense of one's whole life. This researcher discovered the practice with mentors who guided him through a church crisis at midlife using a Life Map. He subsequently led over fifty seminarians in construction of a Life Map as part of their preparation for ministry, observing a pattern of transformation for these adults. This project surveyed the graduates of Bethel Seminary of the East and interviewed eleven, finding solid confirmation for that hypothesis using statistical analysis and grounded theory. As secondary support for the hypothesis, he explored the theme of spiritual formation and transformation in an Old and New Testament character study. This project also surveyed research literature on a noted spiritual formation model, findings from narrative psychology, and an outline of a history of spiritual autobiography. He synthesized these data sources to propose a model for Life Mapping for use by individuals and groups."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799720640745308160,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:09:11.785Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:26:54Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:05:44Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"d78f9c23-5cd0-4294-986a-0a17f4d7bdbd","accessControl_ssim":["999ff915-7a6c-4b09-9a42-5a3c9a0e1b47"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Made to make a difference: ministry formation and the holistic redemptive vision of the kingdom of God"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:26:54Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:17:48Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["f92bb7ff-6843-44ea-82ce-37fbdcff7d0d"],"hasLease_ssim":["972cee5c-62c7-4ff5-b464-58a469b1b9a2"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Harvey Powers"],"year_tesim":["2011"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Lance Blair Dixon"],"keyword_tesim":["Practice (Theology)"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Kingdom of God","Faith development","Theology, Practical","Character","Spiritual formation","Vocation","Redemption--Biblical teaching"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Building on the work of Harv Powers and Rod Cooper in redemptive leadership, this thesis-project seeks to clarify the biblical meaning of redemption and provide a model of discipleship that takes into account the full implications of participating in Christ's transformative work in the world. The goal of designing a holistic discipleship model is to enable Christians to understand more fully and practice more intentionally the true nature of God's reign which we have been called to witness and serve, which is the redemption of all creation. The chapters build toward the development of a curriculum designed to offer every disciple a deeper biblical understanding of God's reign, a clear process of growth consistent with this holistic redemptive biblical vision, and a set of right practices to follow in each dimension of growth, regardless of the participant's particular sense of vocation. By building the curriculum on two influential ethical models of character formation, participants were given the tools to identify ways of deepening their commitment to Christ, growing in their conviction of the kingdom of God, cultivating a more compassionate heart, and developing the kind of Christ-like character that would bear the fruit of the kingdom in their daily lives."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132589143097344,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:05:47.544Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:32:23Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:45:20Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"83dbf18a-8ead-4025-a503-dd60f8fb0f1b","accessControl_ssim":["26037886-0823-4664-8325-ec8003710b5c"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Major spiritual characteristic needed to lead a Jewish mission in North America"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:32:22Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:01:28Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["784a78af-553c-4036-8563-ee13cb0748a4"],"hasLease_ssim":["1ae6490c-fac4-4304-94db-dd381655ed45"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"advisor_tesim":["David Seiver"],"year_tesim":["2011"],"location_tesim":["United States"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Alan S Moskowitz"],"publisher_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"subject_tesim":["Character","Home missions","Missions to Jews"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project was designed to discover the top five moral/spiritual characteristics needed to lead a Jewish mission in the United States. This study evaluates the methodology used in the delivery of a character-based program focused on universal principles in the context of relationships among public high school students at North Cobb high school in Kennesaw, Georgia. While not an exhaustive study of character education, this study explores a successful method of facilitating character development. Three research questions have guided this study: 1. The underlying conviction of the project is that spiritual character development must be a major priority in the church. The project involved working with a small group task force within the author's local church. This nine-member group participated in a ten-week study course that focused on spiritual character development. After the project was completed the report was written and evaluated. The central theological issue studied was the doctrine of the church, especially the priesthood of all believers. The results of the project will be measured in the life of the author's church and in his ministry.
