This knowledge must be accompanied by a fervent prayer life specifically directed at outreach. Surveys were conducted of visitors and members to establish an understanding of their understanding of how the congregation is viewed from those who are not part of its culture and from those who are. This project explored alternatives that can be implemented at Cumberland UMC and other churches facing similar challenges. Surveys/questionnaires, one on one discussion sessions and     small group discussion sessions were utilized to assist the researchers in this process. God instills human beings with laughter, gives a sense of humor for salvation, and gifts believers with Easter laughter. I begin with an exploration of community and church as described by sociologists and ecclesiologists. Members of St. Andrew formed the 'Let's Connect! Team' and shared this learning and their experience of community. This team then invited our congregation to enter into a fuller understanding and experience of Christian community. Throughout church history, Christians have moved into intentional communities seeking to more fully experience and live out the gospel in their daily lives. Interviews were conducted with persons currently living in intentional Christian community, discovering commitment to conflict resolution being key to their health. The author interviewed 14 leaders of diverse congregations in the Twin Cities. The author also used exercises in intercultural competence in three congregational gatherings and interviewed 20 members of the congregation.
