The dissertation shows that even young children can learn much in corporate worship and will do so from symbols, symbolic action, through effective learnings, and through participation.  The dissertation begins with a section on the theology and 'theory' of worship. The congregations are described as liberal, conservative, fundamentalist protestant, and catholic.  The questionnaire revealed that these Christians are not as involved in sports as the general public. The result of their interaction was a cyclical, sensitizing process which could have transferable applications within other contexts. The expression of this narrative quality in Christian worship is primary to the formation of Christian identity.  A study group assembled to investigate the narrative function in Christian faith and worship.  They developed a series of worship experiences based on a narrative understanding and evaluated them for increased awareness of Christian identity of the worshiper. The goals of this project are: 1) to systematize some practical, life-related biblical principles that have shaped the scriptural understanding of present church members; 2) to develop a means of introducing new members to these principles; 3) to facilitate the orientation of new members to the biblical concepts that have influenced the church family; 4) to help new members identify areas of personal need and find initial solutions, visualizing the church as a resource for growth and development; 5) to provide small group learning experiences, giving opportunity for bonding, security, and friendship.  The validation of the project is supported by both theology and survey resources. Ten class sessions were conducted which were comprised of lectures, discussions, role-play and outside of class assignments. Two lecturers from the community shared insights on making friends and how to overcome barriers. The project sought, through introducing them to persons from various hospital disciplines, to provide the holistic approach to caring for the sick and dying patient. Participants were given an opportunity to visit patient wards and to reflect upon their experience through the peer group process.  Participants were to read three books during the three months. A lay and clergy pilot group of some fifteen persons (Methodists and others) prepared themselves for such union by concentrating on five areas of study: the nature of the church, evangelism, the place of women in the church, music, and the origins of the three black Methodist denominations.
