The ability of the author, project associates, participants, and the church to handle conflict productively is documented.  It also describes how the persons involved were enriched by developing skills and confidence in conflict management. In 1986 the school needed to be reorganized because it lacked clear goals and a well-defined action plan for accomplishing those goals.  Also, materials used were insufficient for training members.  The implementation of this project demands a sound theological foundation which included an adequate view of scripture, ministry, and the role of the local church as seen in the Assemblies of God.  The biblical and historical role of the laity is discussed in order to provide an adequate basis for implementing a school of lay ministry. Once the research phase was completed, the materials were assembled into a seminar format.  The principles of adult education were followed and the project was field tested in a local congregation. It focuses primarily on practical techniques which laypersons can use to interpret the Bible.  This process entails a cycle of four readings and seven interpretive questions.  Primary emphasis is placed on using the guidelines from normal human language and the original author's intent to approach the text of Scripture.  The practical analytical procedures allow laypersons to do individual Bible study with the incremented incorporation of research tools and study aids. A Church Growth Conference provided the context for the educational process.  The church in Acts served as a model for church growth.  Biblical and modern church growth principles were used as the basis for the instruction. Pre- and post-evaluations measure the information learned and the appreciation gained for what Presbyterians believe and practice.
