The project sought to bridge the gulf between worship and social justice groups which exists in an average parish and to bring these groups into creative relationship.  The project had four goals: 1) to develop an adult education curriculum; 2) to utilize the curriculum in three diverse parish settings (urban, rural and campus ministry); 3) to assess the curriculum; and 4) to provide information for a revision of the curriculum. The methodology derived directly from the goals.  The principal curriculum resource was a study book, The Noise of Solemn Assemblies: a Primer on Liturgy and Social Justice.  It was taught within three diverse settings and evaluated using a number of instruments and criteria. It demonstrates the effectiveness of these methods in helping adults integrate belief with life experience.  Such integration is demonstrated through the writings of participants which exhibit four criteria: sensibility, insight or awareness, conviction and congruence between meaning and feeling.  A fifth criterion, release of energy or action, is not present or not determined by the evaluation methods of the study. This lack of clarity produces a frustation in both lay people and pastors which may cause them to move from one church to another or to leave the church altogether.  This project developed an eight week adult Sunday school class that explored the roles and expectations of clergy and lay people. These 'Guidelines for Christian Stewards' also are used with an adult membership class in a nearby Lutheran parish and with a group of new Christians in a Roman Catholic Church. Yet, often this opportunity is missed.  In light of this concern, the author developed a small group course, which was aimed to introduce adults to a Wesleyan way of relating to God.  By using experimental theology as a model and Kurt Lewin's 'Steps of Change' as an outline, he established a dialogue between the participants' experience and theological concepts in the Wesleyan heritage. The author helps prepare course material, prepares several instructors to teach the course, teaches two semesters of the program and evaluates it afterwards. Through the use of personal interviews, conversations, and questionnaires, he discovers that the participants feel they have grown in their qualifications for ministry.  They acknowledge that the program helps them to pray more sincerely, to deal constructively with conflict and to develop leadership skills for ministry. The interviews are conducted according to James Fowler's short interview form.  The data reveals that there is no faith development change when this model is used.
