Questionnaires were sent to 34 churches, groups, or individuals around the world, who were involved in a small group ministry.  Out of this research, several convictions grew which gave direction to our approach.  The necessity of building discipleship of a corporate nature caused us to investigate the level of desire among previously 'discipled' people in the church.  A Leadership Training Group Manual and two leadership training groups were developed.  Nine couples and one individual were equipped for this ministry. The methodology of this dissertation/project includes the formulation of a theology of the sabbath, based on the study and reflection on pertinent theological, biblical and historical studies of the sabbath and its life-impinging applications.  Further, special study is given to the contact that the sabbath makes with other kinds of reflection.  Finally, a series of lectures was developed, presented and evaluated. This study concentrates on six broad theological sabbath themes: holy time, creation, redemption/liberation, sovereignty, equality, and rest.  These themes present the grace of God in a life-impinging manner. It states a clear theological definition for each of the stages and then uses personal interviews and the author's own experience in urban ministry as a participant observer to build case studies of each stage of the 'church' as these stages exist theologically and empirically among the residents of an inner city metropolitan community like Elliot Park. The Navigator 2:7 Bible Study Series was the methodology used in this study. Southern Gables Evangelical Free Church, Denver, Colorado, provided the test groups in which growth or non-growth in discipleship was measured.  Measurement of progress was based on a testing instrument developed around the Navigator 'wheel' illustration.  The project concluded that the 2:7 Bible Study Series can provide structures that will stimulate growth in
