The dissertation will analyze various philosophies of ministry which lead to producing imbalanced disciples of Christ, study the First Epistle of John for Biblical principles of balanced discipleship, observe historical precedents from the Reformed tradition, critique some present day discipleship approaches, summarize a survey of church and parachurch ministry leaders and finally, propose some solutions for the thesis question. Chapter 4 is the step-by-step implementation of the ministry project that was successfully completed at Modest Town Baptist Church. A detailed analysis of all relevant statistical information is also presented and discussed within the context of this chapter. Chapter 5 offers an evaluation of the ministry project. A sample of congregants was recruited and afforded a treatment consisting of eight seminars, a series of topical sermons and other support. Through the administration of a pre-test and post-test the project measures the discipleship growth of the experimental group as compared with two control groups within the context and three control groups external to the context. The thesis was developed in a project that included six weeks of Bible study on selected passages from the Gospel of Luke, sessions on spiritual formation, a commissioning of core members of Centennial-Caroline (CC) United Methodist Church (UMC), for service in community organizations. As a climax to the study, the annual planning retreat session for the CC Church was conducted and a revised mission statement was congregants from being members of a local church to being disciples of Jesus Christ.  the methodology consisted of a series of classes and homilies that focused specifically on discipleship principles taught by Jesus.  the project was evaluated by using a pre-test and post-test survey to determine changes in behavior and attitudes regarding discipleship. results of the model showed that, as members become biblically literate, they are transformed into disciples and become actively engaged in doing the tings Jesus Taught and equipping spiritually healthy disciples.  This study determined the effect of designing an intentional process using a team approach of pastor and thirty leaders.  The study made use fo the sport of whitewhater rafting as an image for discipleship development. In this metaphor the church is an outfitter, providing the necessary resources and training for equipping disciples.
