In this trinitarian understanding of stewardship, Christian stewards are empowered through baptism to live as little Christs.  One of the critical needs is to reground stewardship in baptismal theology.  Baptismal theology also reveals the need for interpersonal relationships among God's people.  Without interpersonal relationships it is almost impossible to communicate and teach wholistic stewardship. It also tests the use of instrumentations (the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, the Blake-Mouton Managerial Grid and a Money Behavior Inventory) in the collection and use of data from 10 pastors and 100 laity.  The paper includes sections on stewardship theology, leadership theory, research methodology, and data analysis. The study includes an overview of the history of church funding, an analysis of current funding programs, and a comparative inquiry of local churches, ministers and funding practices in the North Texas Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church. This project examines the social context of this crisis, and it asserts that this pecuniary exigency is essentially theological in character. The relationship between Christian vocation (belonging) and stewardship (belongings) is explored in light of a Trinitarian perspective on the doctrine of election. The qualitative narrative study method is employed to explore the relationship between belonging and belongings in the lives of four members of a local congregation, Harbor View Presbyterian Church, Charleston, South Carolina. An emancipatory quantitative action research methodology that consisted of one pretest and posttest survey, six stewardship training classes, and two sermons was used to achieve this goal.  A diverse group of twenty-two church officers received stewardship training throughout the project.  Both the researcher and the group grew spiritually during the project. A six-week format of two preachment phases and four workshop sessions were employed to develop a tithing-system consciousness in the sample population.  The quantitative method included a four-part pre-test/post-test experimental survey design. Chapter one introduces the study, while chapter two examined biblical and theological models for lifetime stewardship including the creation narrative from Gen 1:26-31, a study of the life of Barnabas, and the doctrine of creation and redemption.  Chapter three conducts a historical review of the nature of philanthropy that covers: the nature of philanthropy, the development of philanthropy, philanthropy in America from the colonial period to the present, the history of philanthropy in the Southern Baptist Convention and philanthropic data from 1968-1998.  Chapter four describes the selection of the WMU state consultants and details the content and information of the five training sessions.
