The minister significantly helps the bereaved in developing a model of grief management.  If established during the first days of grief, it can help mourners work through the grief process to a healthy conclusion.  This dissertation explains the nature of shock, its affect on family; discusses the value of funerals, and illustrates how the funeral message can be developed to aid the family in a therapeutic manner and be spiritually comforting. Methodology included reviewing relevant literature, forwarding a questionnaire to all clergy in one area of Australia and interviewing some respondents.  The two sections of the resultant handbook cover: 1) the dynamics of grief and ministry in light of these dynamics and 2) resource material for funerals.
