He suggests specific contributions by lay ministers that enhance the effectiveness of the funeral rites.  The thesis correlates the rich content of Christian tradition with contemporary cultural experience of death and bereavement. By the analysis of interviews with those engaged ministerially with the OCF, the author illustrates the motivation, the preparation, and the support required for engagement in this ministry. They lead him or her to carry out works of justice.
