It included biblical references, writers in the Christian tradition and insights gained from Eastern traditions.  It included travel to selected ashrams of India. Theological reflections are provided for a theology of a bereavement.  A liturgy preparation guide and a parish support group are outlined.  Conclusions from pastoral interviews and presentations are cited. The project began with the hypothesis that the congregation had an inadequate understanding of the purpose and function of the funeral service.  The congregation demonstrated the validity of the hypothesis after completing a congregational survey.  Eleven church members participated in a study of the funeral service as worship.  The study involved three sermons, five teaching sessions, and two workshop classes.
