The author created a curriculum for mothers exploring their faith. Participants received monthly, theme-based materials from scripture, the Episcopal Book of Common Prayer, a quotation from a modern source, an activity, a recommended film and reflection questions. After independently engaging these offerings, they gathered in discussion groups to further explore the material. The Book of Jude is used as an example of dealing with Gnosticism's influence on the congregation. Then an historical analysis of Irenaeus's christology in his anti-Gnostic work shows the importance of affirming the deity of the historical Jesus when addressing Gnostic trends. This thesis concludes that the remedy for the congregation is to emphasize the historically grounded doctrine that Jesus Christ is the sui generis Son of God."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791127152428580864,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:39:22.689Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:27:53Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:49:21Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"9ca6a704-b6b8-4828-a051-cde915950ce4","accessControl_ssim":["4c91bb92-96e5-4ba6-84ef-91f3bba20e79"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Developing Jewish awareness seminars: a model implemented in Adventist churches in Michigan"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:27:52Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:43:01Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["53674c56-bd49-45a0-b393-7940e63862b1"],"hasLease_ssim":["93d03a85-e33c-42c1-b970-2e430b961a99"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Andrews University"],"advisor_tesim":["Bruce Campbell Moyer"],"year_tesim":["2007"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Robert C Quillin"],"publisher_tesim":["Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary of Andrews University"],"subject_tesim":["Judaism","Interfaith relations","Christianity","Seventh-Day Adventists","Christian education","Prejudices","Seventh-Day Adventists--Education"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Problem: the author observed that the Seventh-day Adventist Church has not adequately prepared members to interact with Jewish people. Method: a sociological questionnaire was implemented on a select group of Michigan Adventists and three focus groups; a manual was constructed and refined in two pilot lay-training seminars. Results: Adventists had stereotypical perceptions of Jewish people, but were willing to be educated for interaction. Evaluations revealed that participants' understanding of Jewish people improved. Follow-up suggestions were recommended. Conclusions: Adventists' attitudes toward Jews are influenced by theology, a lack of familiarity, ignorance, and stereotypes. Three passages from Paul's writings (Eph. 1:4-10; 4:1-16; and 1 Corinthians 12) were researched as they relate to cross-cultural partnerships characterized by grace, including Paul's views of community, use of gifts, use of power, and grace. The theoretical issues researched focused on Geert Hofstede's dimensions of individualism, power distance, and uncertainty avoidance. The results suggest that the workshop activities produced changes in the missionaries' worldviews regarding partnership, increased the number of entities the missionaries considered as potential partners in ministry, and helped inspire the grace that allows cross-cultural partnerships to flourish."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Denver Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e7af129f-938f-4821-9463-dc6ded35d563"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133329207066624,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:17:33.324Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:17:11Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:05:15Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"8d345f19-dcd7-4072-98a5-b14fa2e9ffc2","accessControl_ssim":["4b7e25df-0f04-4035-b323-7b4c766798d6"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Lord of the Sabbath: the messianic banquet and Lord's Day ethics"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:17:10Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:16:16Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["cb69dc45-7bcc-40a1-93f4-3344cc7c580c"],"hasLease_ssim":["072e9166-8e6d-4b3a-ab0d-4122d9c550a7"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Martha L Moore-Keish"],"year_tesim":["2007"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Stuart R Gordon"],"keyword_tesim":["Eating and meals in the Bible"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Kingdom of God","Sunday","Judaism","Sabbath","Christianity","Christian ethics"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The messianic banquet proves suggestive of a Christian ethic, which acknowledges the continuities and discontinuities between Israel's Sabbath and the church's Lord's Day.
