These core capabilities have been well developed by chaplains through years of seminary, pastoral experience and the rigors of military chaplaincy. Historical literature as well as first-hand accounts examining the role of chaplains in the Pacific during WWII provide promising models for the praxis of a Navy chaplain’s ministry for a future conflict occurring in an archipelago. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to understand how Navy chaplains prepare and lead combatants for amphibious warfare using the experiences and insights of Navy chaplains to identify the principles, execution, challenges and assessment of ministry in amphibious warfare. \r\n\r\nThe findings of this study were first that the core competencies of the Navy Chaplain Corps provided a basic model of ministry. In executing their ministry to combatants three common principles were revealed: presence, reconciliation and worship. Second, Navy chaplains possessed clear understanding of the military mission enabling them to deliver care in austere circumstances. Often this was at their own expense of spiritual, mental and physical health. Finally, Navy chaplains possessed a subjective view of leadership but each possessed a strong personal conviction to exercise ethical and moral leadership within their commands. \r\n\r\nThis study provided three primary conclusions about preparing and leading combatants in amphibious warfare. First, chaplains should be oriented to the ministry models exercised by Navy chaplains in the PAC theatre of WWII. Second, further in-depth training based on the ministry models of the PAC theatre should be implemented for deploying chaplains. Third, chaplains should be adequately equipped to lead and minister in an environment inclusive of protracted trauma and death. Equipping chaplains for this environment should occur both on the personal, professional and organizational levels. In doing so it considers key characteristics revealed by research within the English Anglican tradition and explores those characteristics as understood in Biblical and Reformed theology. Using ethnography and phenomenology, the paper identifies whether these characteristics are present in the life of the Dunfermline Abbey Church of Scotland congregation, and then uses the data and research to provide a definition of \"cathedral-style\" ministry and mission at a congregational conference to provide impetus for a mission plan."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["mrennie@pts.edu"],"_version_":1803671611805532160,"timestamp":"2024-07-04T17:48:11.410Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2024-05-02T21:08:14Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-02T21:08:51Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"212e4228-e873-432b-83da-686626a00d07","accessControl_ssim":["c3421e64-0112-4562-97f7-9c671f95ae82"],"hasRelatedMediaFragment_ssim":["f5791854-575c-4bf2-9826-11b535d9e005"],"hasRelatedImage_ssim":["f5791854-575c-4bf2-9826-11b535d9e005"],"depositor_ssim":["jwood5843@gmail.com"],"depositor_tesim":["jwood5843@gmail.com"],"title_tesim":["The Power of Story: Exploring the Use of Story and Storytelling in the Liturgy of the Lord's Supper"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2024-05-02T21:08:14Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-02T21:08:51Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["8d6543ea-912f-48f7-966c-23f5bd387bc1"],"hasLease_ssim":["b5229e5f-f74f-4e26-b986-f7b1f8eb4468"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["D.Min"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["2024"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. For some, the language of “story” brings to mind fantasy epics like The Stormlight Archives. However, stories are also central in religious traditions. While many in the Christian tradition reflect upon the stories of scripture regularly, it is not as common to practice storytelling to enhance our own spirituality. This paper, through qualitative research, examines how the use of story, particularly focusing on its use in a Reformed Eucharistic liturgy, impacts the experiences and imaginations of worshippers. Advocating for lay leadership development, particularly among youth and young adults, this study proposes nurturing empowered lay leaders as a solution to organizational stagnation. This paper reflects on the author’s own story of leadership growth and development by tracing his emergence as a leader, identifying important mentors, and noting formative experiences which contributed to his growth. Rooted in theoretical analysis, this portfolio also proposes a paradigm shift towards shared leadership,a collaborative model of leadership which integrates biblical, theoretical, and practical insights. Using Participatory Action Learning and Action Research, both obstacles and strategies for success in leadership development were discovered. Findings indicated significant growth in participants' understanding of leadership calling, spirituality, and teamwork, underscoring the effectiveness of classroom training, mentorship and collaborative approaches. The conclusions emphasize the significance of leadership calling, spirituality, sacrifice, empowerment, teamwork, and the need to shift leadership development from a program to a church culture."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["goodnewspeople@icloud.com"],"_version_":1795984966983614464,"timestamp":"2024-04-10T21:32:15.664Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":157,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
