It explores the distinctive nature, the bondage and liberation of man according to this Hindu philosophical view and Christianity.  The former maintains the unity of the essential self and brahman, the ill consequences of Avidya and Karma and the way of freedom through Moksha.  The latter teaches that man, the creature, estranged and enslaved in sin, is distinct from God, the creator, but he through faith can be reconciled to God by the death of Christ on the cross. The contextual approach developed by Ivan Boszormenyi-Nagy and the relational-ethical thinking of Martin Buber are applied. Based on these perspectives, the specific trust-building and trust-diminishing aspects of biblical teachings, the inherited church history, and present church life are investigated.  Modalities are outlined which reverse the process of losing trust and which enable persons to accept their relational responsibilities vis-à-vis others and the inherited legacy. The reason for devising the titled plan and a description of the plan itself follow. Six classes (outlined in the dissertation) were held to teach caring skills to separate groups of church officers and lay members, using biblical 'caring' passages, psychological principles, understanding problems of the dying, the grief cycle, etc.  The writer's evaluation of the program, determined through individual interviews with each trainee after completion of the classes, as well as evaluation of the program's effect on the writer's own ministry are included. The research model used is both ethnographic and pro-active from the point of view of a participant/observer. Because Jesus demonstrated His bond with the disciples through footwashing and gave them instruction to wash each other's feet, reminding them of the connection they had in Christ and with each other for fulfilling Christ's mission, so Middle Pennsylvania congregations (a people whose ministry tradition is defined as a community through footwashing) who have come consciously or unconsciously to develop a secular understanding of District structure as Institution, are called to recover the identity of District Ministry as a network of partners communing with Christ and each other.
