The author examined the ways in which engagement with Zen can enrich Christian preaching by offering contemplative tools that form preachers not merely as transmitters of sacred information but as embodied witnesses of grace who have experienced the Good News that they preach. This study employed qualitative research to examine the reflections of Christians who have assimilated Zen practice into their Christian lives. In part one, Wesley's historical and theological background together with his spirituality was dealt with his practice of prayer and finally his activities in the U.S.A. In part two, I examined Korean spirituality which was influenced very much by Shamanism and Mysticism. I illustrated two pastors' stories which impressed me very much. In part three, a questionnaire was designed to know what the Korean scholars and pastors thought about Wesleyan prayer and their prayer practice. Through these debates, primarily at its quadrennial gatherings, the church has clarified its theology and established its doctrinal standards. However, a disjunction has occurred within the church's theological anthropology. When speaking more generally about theology, the church relies upon one construction of theological anthropology. When speaking about human sexuality and homosexuality, the church relies upon a second, divergent theological anthropology. If it is the case that the church relies upon a second, divergent theological anthropology when speaking about homosexuality and homosexual practice, then its doctrine on homosexuality and homosexual practice is suspect and needs revision. To resolve this disjunction and provide this revision, the church must (1) identify the divergent theological anthropology currently used in its discussion of homosexuality and homosexual practice and (2) replace that divergent theological anthropology with an alternative, more doctrinally consistent theological anthropology. This more doctrinally consistent theological anthropology is the Eschaton Adam. The following thesis argues that this more doctrinally consistent theological anthropology offers the church a new avenue, potentially enabling the denomination to pursue theological precision and to gain greater denominational consensus on the contentious issues of homosexuality and homosexual practice. Out of this thesis, a project was created to test the theory that a disjunction was present and that substituting one theological anthropology for another would alter church doctrine, lay and clergy perceptions of that doctrine, and potentially supply the church with a viable way forward to resolve this persisting doctrinal problem of how adequately to address homosexuality and homosexual practice."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128273757929472,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:57:12.072Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:18:57Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:39:18Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"7dfa91e0-8951-4731-955a-943e7446a9a5","accessControl_ssim":["11d4169c-2bed-4c4a-a2ad-04ab248baf6f"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Facing the neo-Gnostic trends in a small PCA congregation in West Texas"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:18:56Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:50:58Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["05db2ae8-c910-45c1-b233-83ae9eb3d754"],"hasLease_ssim":["7e856877-0132-4706-8c5c-ccd1b6a23623"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry (Ambridge, PA)"],"advisor_tesim":["Justyn Terry"],"year_tesim":["2007"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Michael W Philliber"],"keyword_tesim":["Jesus Christ--Divinity"],"publisher_tesim":["Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry"],"subject_tesim":["Interfaith relations","Presbyterian Church in America","Christianity","Gnosticism","Jesus Christ","Historicity of Jesus Christ"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This study examines the ability of a small West Texas congregation to respond to neo-Gnosticism's challenges to the deity of Christ and the historical, authoritative reliability of the connonical gospels. Then an historical analysis of Irenaeus's christology in his anti-Gnostic work shows the importance of affirming the deity of the historical Jesus when addressing Gnostic trends. In the conclusion a leadership development model is proposed."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132562631950336,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:05:22.261Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:53:57Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:00:30Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a6ce4ce4-0fee-4e98-a8be-dc482bc1c93c","accessControl_ssim":["9a542ad4-8543-4113-bbb9-ae1de691cce3"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Conversions and reconversions in South Gujarat: an analytical study of the responses of the converts and reconverts in the context of persecution"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:53:57Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:58:30Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["c0b0a4f9-964b-4798-9958-4b9c04e2733b"],"hasLease_ssim":["1fc0107b-b172-4627-a68b-f5556db4dd02"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Biblical Seminary and School of Missions"],"advisor_tesim":["Junias Venugopal"],"year_tesim":["2008"],"location_tesim":["India--Gujarat"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Jayakumar Ramachandran"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Biblical Seminary and School of Missions of Columbia International University"],"subject_tesim":["Persecution","Hindu converts from Christianity","Christian converts from Hinduism","Christianity","Hinduism"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This research paper primarily investigates the causes for re-conversion of certain Christian converts in Gujarat who renounced their Christian identity and returned to the Hindu faith.
