Ararat Baptist, formed a collaborative relationship to provide mentors for predominately African American boys. This was a case study using quantitative and qualitative measurements of the boys' grades, attendance, absenteeism and behavior. The author researched the role that faith played in the mentors' lives. The Faith Maturity Index was used to determine the maturity level of the mentors. The mentors and boys were interviewed to determine how the Christian men had made a positive difference in the boys' lives. A questionnaire administered in 1987 exposed specific weaknesses.  The author developed a syllabus of instruction and conducted seminars in seven cities, concentrating particularly on basic principles of teaching and learning, on educational methods and media, and on the integration of the total teaching program of a church. The neophyte church encouraged the development of Christian school education for children.  Due to a vartiety of circumstances eventually almost all Nazarene energies in academics became concentrated at the college level.  Currently there is a strong resurgence of elementary and high school education through local Nazarene churches.  This book provides a handbook of practical information to assist any church interested in beginning a school ministry. It involves two types of schools, 'accelerated Christian education' and the 'traditional classroom'. The history, doctrine and philosophy of education is investigated and comparisons are made between the schools in organization and operation. It reflects on national and local Black educational needs, lays a biblical and theological basis for Afrocentricity, discusses Dellabrook Presbyterian Church's history of mission and ministry. This project also uses focus groups to measure the potential for Afrocentric public education.  This last data was analyzed and the potential for Afrocentric public education was evaluated with church based and community based recommendations.  This project is narrative and qualitative.  It seeks to be a model for Black church-based community organizing and for the revitalization of a traditional Presbyterian
