This is done by the establishment of a soup kitchen and a 100 bed emergency shelter for the homeless.  The human services are set up in such a way as to follow a theory of evangelization that will enable them to be repeated in other communities, and allow the poor and the larger community an opportunity to live the Gospel message in such a way that both become part of the problem and solution. One specific way of congregational response is then selected. In a previous analysis of the congregation, we learned that our congregation was located in the area of Arlington which has the highest number of social problems.  We also learned that responding to human problems came out last on the scale of importance in our church life as it was perceived by our members. These adult-children of alcoholics have been left with psychological and physical scars.  This project draws on research in the field of alcoholism and adult-children and on personal experience. It seeks to define who the adult-child is; the dynamic and the effects of the alcoholic and the co-dependent spouse on the child; the myths, messages, rules and roles within the alcohlic family.  The latter part of the work presents the church as family.  It profiles the alcoholic priest who is an adult-child, the church's response to alcoholic clergy, the role of church authority and denial. It relates its findings to a church which exists in an individualistic society, but which is committed ethically to becoming more community oriented.  The project describes five phases of development: 1) the establishment of a congregational unemployment task force; 2) the involvement of the Butler Unemployment Task Force (BUTF); 3) the incorporation of human resource agencies; 4) action taken by the BUTF on behalf of unemployed and underemployed; 5) the incorporation of the wider church. The purpose of this project is to analyze the effectiveness of food banks as a means of addressing this problem.  The writer reviews the scriptures and discovers two themes: 1) everything belongs to God, and 2) God's people are to look to the needs of others.  The writer examines current literature and discovers that poverty is tied closely to hunger.  The Westside Food Bank is used as a model of food banking.  Three other food banks in Arizona also are studied.
