They saw the family as the first church, and the greater congregation serving families in a way that strengthened families, churches and society's common good, in that order.  This thesis explores one enduring error which may have served to drive a tragically unnecessary stake into the heart of the Puritan vision. In addition to serving their spiritual needs, the churches find themselves dealing with a wide array of social, economic and educational factors, faced by their parishioners. This project focuses on the role of education as a tool for addressing the social and spiritual needs of these first-generation immigrants. The project used case studies to plan CareFest, and surveys and interviews to measure congregants' community service involvement and the perceived impact of such ministry on the church and community; event recipients were also interviewed. Post-event data supports that CareFest achieved its aims.
