An ethnographic approach to ten church plants were included in this study. Three of the plants were investigated further with additional site visits, surveys and interviews with leaders and members of the church plant community. Four key principles were identified that contributed to the success of the church plant. To do so, it uses two layers of research strategies: (1) at the national level, a qualitative analysis of two national reports and generalizations made about the American Church and culture and (2) at the regional level, an anonymous survey of individuals and participation in both a nondenominational church plant and an established mainstream congregation. These challenges will then be addressed by building 'bridges' which create partnerships with individuals, families, churches and the community at large. Field research was conducted on over sixty churches that had reproduced at least three churches over a twenty-year period. Churches were first surveyed with a questionnaire and the six churches, that planted a total of sixty-two churches, were selected for in-depth interviews. These were purposively selected for their diverse areas, sizes, denominations and styles. Six primary and eight secondary leaders were interviewed. The goal was to develop recommendations for recruiting and mobilizing among millennials for ministry to Muslims. Missiological and generational literature review determined the nature, scope and methodology for inspiring and mobilizing millennials for this specific ministry. Subsequently a survey and interview questions for person-to-person interviews, phone discussions and e-mail correspondence with millennials were produced. Results demonstrated specific preferences, strengths and weaknesses among millennials regarding ministry to Muslims. This project examines one of the ways to increase effectiveness in church planting through the development and execution of a church-based church planting residency program. It examines the assessment, training, and support provided to church planters through case studies of two different types of church planting residency programs. These case studies outline the assessment and recruitment strategies, and then examines their training and equipping models. Finally, it describes how these planters are supported after completing their residency. The goal of this study is to assist Ambassador Church in developing a church-based church planting residency program. And what happens to the faith and discipleship of people (whom the project names 'pioneers') involved in mission, in church planting? These are the questions that this project sets out to answer. The appropriate method to get at these questions is qualitative research through in-depth interviews. The project concluded that new churches grow through the outreach and invitation of pioneers through their day-to-day contacts in their social networks. The review of literature and analysis of interviews with church planters focused on three key areas of planting churches that affect pastors: the church planter as a man, the church planter's message, and the church planter's mission. In the area of the church planter as a man, the findings revealed that the church planter must be biblically qualified and spiritually gifted. In the area of the church planter's message, the findings demonstrated that the church planter must preach the gospel from all of scripture. In the area of the church planter's mission, the study determined that the church planter must join the mission of God by incarnating the gospel in culturally understandable ways. Five hypotheses guided this study: people from the mother church leave to plant the new church; church planters have a relationship with the mother church before starting a new church; daughter churches are planted locally in relation to the mother church; daughter churches are financially supported by the mother church for a period of time; and the people from the daughter church fully support the church planter. The hypotheses were supported by the literature and case study. As a result of these case studies, seven principles surfaced. The first principle is finding the 'right' person. Without the 'right' person, the rest of the principles do not matter. Principle number two is assessment, which verifies that he, is indeed the 'right' person for the job. Principle number three is the five percent rule: every new church that is planted will give five percent of its offerings to an escrow account for a minimum of three years. This is where the money comes from to plant new churches. Principle number four is partnering for the purpose of sharing resources. Principle number five is that a church plant becomes a fully functional church on its launch day, which allows the bookkeeping systems of the church to include paying the salary of the church planter from day one. Principle number six is raising support, which takes the pressure off the church planter to raise his full salary. Principle seven is networking, which makes partnering easier and contributes to the nonfinancial support of the planters. It is hoped that these principles will work to make a difference in the way churches are started and that they will be tested in different places by other networks of churches that desire to create movements of church planting
