The study includes an overview of the history of church funding, an analysis of current funding programs, and a comparative inquiry of local churches, ministers and funding practices in the North Texas Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church. The study utilized a case study approach describing the church planting programs of five similarly sized denominations, the statistical records for new congregations started in 1993 and 1994, and interviews with church planters,  denominational leaders, and outside consultants. The author used for this study a combination of the 'ethnographic research method' and pro-active research method as outlined by William R. Myers' Research in Ministry: A Primer for the Doctor of Ministry Program. The author concluded that no evidence of biases could be found as stated in the thesis.
