Chapter 1 introduces the contemporary Filipino small group, its problems, the proposed solution, and the anticipated results. Chapter 2 investigates relevant literature. Chapter 3 introduces the first century church, investigates and interprets the context of the Greco-Roman house churches, and integrates the concept of the New Testament house churches with their Greco-Roman context and the content of their practices. Chapter 4 introduces the concepts of the twenty-first century church and small group, investigates and interprets Filipino small groups, and integrates the content of New Testament church practices with contemporary small group theology. Chapter 5 presents the results on the New Testament house churches and their implications for Filipino small groups. Training included six instructional sessions that lasted one and a half hours each. The sessions were taught from the text of Matthew 4:18-20; 1 Corinthians 12:4-6; 2 Timothy 2:1-7; Ephesians 4:29-32; John 15:5-8; and Matthew 9:16-17.  The sessions were presented in one-week intervals with assignments to personally apply the content between sessions. The six sessions included a common purpose, clear role expectations, solid relationships, team processes, leadership, and communication. The goals of this project were as follows: to research team building leadership skills in order to develop teaching plans to equip the staff in team ministry, to develop teaching plans in order to equip the staff in team building leadership skills, and to equip the staff to practice team building leadership skills. The professional goals of this project were to increase the project director's knowledge of team building leadership skills, and to increase the project director's skill in curriculum design. Implementation was the main qualitative research method used. The main objective was to implement five different components into the small group ministry with the hope that group participation would increase to a percentage which reflected Central Church's stated vision that small groups were an important way to connect. Christian spiritual formation is the process whereby Christians are conformed to the image of Christ. Extroverted Christian women (tested using Myers Briggs Type Indicator) participated in group practice of spiritual disciplines over a four month period. Quantitative analysis included a behavioral questionnaire and the Spiritual Assessment Inventory. Qualitative analysis was based on individual interviews. Four small groups produced a custom-made lectionary, collected related reference materials, and provided the pastor with weekly exegetical and presentation ideas, supporting materials, and feedback on proposed sermons. The pastor's increase in satisfaction and reduction in frustration with the overall sermon preparation process indicated positive change. This project examined two coaching tools, Gallup StrengthsFinder and World Harvest Mission Gospel-Centered Life, to determine if using them in combination improved team effectiveness to a greater degree than using either tool alone.  Seventeen participants on two core leadership teams from church plants in urban Philadelphia were trained with both tools.  The qualitative research was conducted by self-evaluation surveys that gathered  information before and after each phase of training.
