Small groups can play an essential role in this transformation process.  The basis of this project was a one-day workshop for small group leaders.  The workshop content included biblical descriptions of transformation and biblical relational processes suitable to foster spiritual transformation in small groups' members.  The role of small group dynamics as described by social scientists was also presented. In this study the authors surveyed pastors who are looking to hire associate staff, seeking to ascertain their level of understanding and preparedness for the task at hand.  The research revealed that most churches and their pastors have not agreed on a process for hiring associate pastors.  The author concludes that it is the senior pastor who should lead the search for kindred spirit team members. Utilizing an approved bibliography and a survey of church members over 65, the director researched how Baby Boomers will live into their retirement as opposed to how Builders lived into theirs and developed a seminar that consisted of six ninety-minute sessions. Participants examined the dynamics of retirement and developed a future story that incorporated missions and ministry. Sessions included pertinent scripture, work sheets, questionnaires, PowerPoint presentations, discussion groups, and individual reflection. The church leadership team is strengthened when a strategic transition plan is implemented that allows the senior pastor to 'leave well' and the church to progress even after his departure. The project director worked with the church leadership team to effectuate such a plan. It identified and addressed the strategic and practical issues created by the senior pastor's transition. The three remaining sessions were conducted in single sessions over the next two months.  The sessions focused on the scriptural basis of deacon ministry, the role of deacon as minister, the use of spiritual gifts in deacon ministry, and the formulation of deacon ministry teams.  The project goals were to research the skills needed to minister using deacon ministry skills, to develop a program for equipping deacons to minister using deacon ministry teams, and to equip the deacons to minister using deacon ministry teams.
