It will seek to provide an efficient model for the strategic integration of discipleship ministries by merging the existing Sunday School ministry with a new home fellowship ministry at Southside Baptist Church of Port Neches, Texas. Focusing upon the importance of the biblical concept of 'koinonia,' the project will seek to create a positive atmosphere for the successful development of disciples in this congregation. Recognizing the importance of encouraging inactive members to comprehend their calling to become active disciples, the project will attempt to provide a model where such members are integrated into a setting that will promote their spiritual development. The project will focus on the Scriptural definition and purpose of 'koinonia' and propose strategic ways to develop such fellowship in the context of Sunday School. Encumbrances and obstacles that hinder a successful integration of both Sunday School and home cell groups will be addressed openly. As far as can be ascertained, such a model for revitalizing Sunday School through the use of home cell groups has not been offered. Findings include the critical nature of a 'safe' nonjudgmental community in explorations of faith questions and of an intellectual element that challenges and stimulates their faith. The thesis is that Christian women, given the proper tools and authority, can more effectively impact economically challenged women.  A thirty-two-hour workshop was developed, the first of three phases, to begin empowering and organizing participants into a self-managed team.  They were led through Ken Blanchard's three keys to empowerment -- sharing information, clarifying boundaries to create autonomy, and developing teams to replace the hierarchy. It grew out of the director's need to build a team to lead the church in building and relocating to a new facility and his need to encourage team-building skills.  A three-day retreat and four monthly workshops were created to train the team in biblical team-building concepts. It does not look at individual groups but rather the dynamics involved in the overall ministry as it is implemented and run within a local church. The thesis begins with a look at the biblical basis for community and the need to understand its role in small group ministry. Pentecostals have emphasized the personal work of the Holy Spirit but not appreciated the Spirit's role in building community. An overview of contemporary small group models is presented. The organizational factors are derived from Bolman and Deal's work in Reframing Organizations. The four organizational frames or lens are structural, human resource, political, and symbolic. Each area is examined with a view to considering the impact on running a small group ministry. Small groups exist within the context of an entire church system and therefore interact and respond to leadership and what is taking place in the congregation. Six PAOC churches in Ontario were interviewed for this study. There are three main categories of churches: those with small groups, those of small groups and those in a transition phase. The author discovered that each type of church has particular challenges with respect to the organizational factors that are highlighted. Culture change can occur over time with theological focus, personal security, and the application of frames thinking. Leaders learned the proposed model of culture change and chose to implement it in their groups. Students were surveyed before and after the project to measure changes in the group's culture. Participants readily accepted the invitation, quickly developing facility with responding to questions posed by the author, and making connections with biblical material. Four groups of active, long-term church members answered a questionnaire, pre-intervention, prepared by the author.  Three groups out of the four received the intervention of professionally marketed inventories with the fourth group being the control group.  Post-intervention all four groups again answered the author's questionnaire.  The changes they made on the questionnaire post-intervention showed no significant difference between the control group and those receiving intervention.
