In a 12-week experience, group participants practice personal devotions, meditation, and journaling.  The project follows participants' spiritual journeys and expresses them in their words, revealing qualities and skills necessary for an initiator, as well as some hurdles and concerns.  The project makes no claim that group spiritual guidance is the only way to draw closer to God, but with minimal education for the initiator such groups can be incorporated into churches. Will they be able to live more consistently as Christian disciples in the world? This project seeks to answer these questions a pretest/posttest questionnaire administered to 68 laypersons.  The experimental group of 34 persons received six hours of theological instruction. The control group of 34 persons received no instruction. In eight-week training sessions grief ministry team members are equipped with listening skills, grief counseling skills, understanding of the grieving process, and a biblical perspective on grief that enables team members to answer some of the difficult questions that arise when people face death. The project employed four key groups including a Rediscovering Your Spiritual Gifts class, Search Groups in preparation for a 'Weekend of Discovery,' a 'Weekend of Discovery' renewal program, and a Disciple Bible Study.  The project conducted interviews with 34 church members using 21 questions.
