An understanding of the three primary meanings for the noun koinonia is presented. Since koinonia or Christian community is experienced as we share our lives together in groups, several elements of group dynamics are developed, along with related matters of biblical small groups. Finally, practical issues in starting biblical small groups are discussed. The author adapted the paradigm of base Christian communities in Central America for a Unitarian Universalist church in Hillsboro, Oregon. Ministries developed include: English as a second language, a community garden with Hispanic and Anglo participants, and a 'no on nine' campaign to promote gay and lesbian rights. The project's conclusion is that the struggle for meaning and hope is the middle class's counterpart to the struggle for justice and hope waged by the poor."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Hartford Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8e52e4c8-38b6-4846-872d-a744b4f5725d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791126244568334336,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:24:56.886Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:54:14Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:01:12Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"696dacdf-e36b-4d13-88dd-8de5488dad52","accessControl_ssim":["8e6f12e9-d24f-419a-9783-6e915c0bd9fc"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Creative community: the introduction of small groups into the local church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:54:13Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:13:00Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["67bdabd4-cfac-471c-b64b-794bd5850471"],"hasLease_ssim":["d0f41c51-811c-4aa5-9d91-66074c737d8d"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["United Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Mary Olson"],"year_tesim":["1994"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["W Ford Price"],"publisher_tesim":["United Theological Seminary (OH)"],"subject_tesim":["Church group work"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This model offers steps in developing a comprehensive small group ministry in order to build community and make disciples at Christ Church United Methodist (Charleston, West Virginia). Several theories of grief, both inside and outside of the SDA Church, are briefly explored, thereby developing an understanding of the dynamics of the grief encounter. Nine grieving individuals of the church founded and formed a grief support group. For six consecutive weeks they met, and processed their grief pains and acquired insights on being caregivers to other grievers. The evaluation by the support group members revealed that they received much benefit in being able to look back at their losses and realistically come to terms 'with the finality of death'."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andrews University"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4b1d9df2-25d6-46f6-a889-1871c277d61c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135461690834944,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:51:27.019Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:45:31Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:08:56Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"3046262d-006a-49f3-b46c-1d4e87cee0f1","accessControl_ssim":["e246ca57-3050-4681-aa05-e61f53b5f0e1"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The application of Watson's covenant discipleship group model using a pilot group in a United Methodist church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:45:30Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:32:15Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["e4c3f755-428c-49d5-948b-a5e79d45152f"],"hasLease_ssim":["2b5a5e7f-7253-45bc-8a10-fc8d9ff29fb1"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Oral Roberts University"],"advisor_tesim":["Kenneth H Mayton"],"year_tesim":["1993"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Steven L Souders"],"publisher_tesim":["Oral Roberts University School of Theology"],"subject_tesim":["Church group work","Christian life"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this project was to address the lack of an adequate structure at St Paul's United Methodist Church that encouraged members to practice measurable, accountable discipleship.
