It focused on the pastors' personal, professional, and spiritual formation. This research was an evaluative study in a descriptive mode utilizing a pre-, mid-, and post-test design with no comparison. These factors transcend qualifying marks of congregations such as race, geography, size, age, and theological distinctives.  This project employed factor analysis to compare the independent variable of membership growth with the dependent variable of factors presumed to indicate church growth and church health.  The most significant factor difference between growing and declining churches was need-based programs.  The research affirms the significance of strictness and meaning for growth. The plan puts in place an on-going strategy to accomplish the task of assimilation. The Decatur community is affluent and highly educated with limited faith involvement. The church has gradually declined for twenty years though attempts were made to follow recommendations from numerous growth consultants. Based on the belief that hindrances to growth were church health related, the purpose of the project was to develop a plan for church growth based on the findings from an appropriate church health assessment. The research team developed a survey to assess the presence of eight health characteristics: intentional evangelism, mobilized laity, transforming discipleship, engaging worship, passionate spirituality, empowering leadership, authentic community, and effective structures. The health was then compared to particular indices of growth. A positive relationship between health and growth was discovered. Central Pennsylvania Conference","Church growth"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This is a ten-year follow-up study of seventeen church growth consultations conducted by Rev. Bill Easum in churches of the Central Pennsylvania Conference United Methodist Church. Churches were measured against a standard of vitality derived from the classical and reformation 'marks' of the church as well as evidence of the work of the Holy Spirit.  Study results showed that Easum's strategies assisted congregations in uniting around a core mission and encouraged pastors to boldly preach the Lordship of Jesus Christ. In order to lay a groundwork for this study, several sources were surveyed including Scripture, theological writings, church growth literature, books on leadership, management, transition, and change theory.  Field research was conducted which consisted of interviews with thirty pastors from the Christian and Missionary Alliance and other denominations. The correlation between transferable church health characteristics and quantitative church growth is analyzed with the use of a researcher-designed questionnaire.  The literature review studies the organic and organizational aspects of church health through a theological understanding of the church as community. The findings demonstrate a positive relationship between the perception of church health and church growth.
