The goal was to reach, evangelize and assimilate nonchurched nonbelievers in our area. We examined and evaluated our Sunday morning worship service. We developed procedures that ensured teams trained in Evangelism Explosion visited all Sunday morning worship and Sunday School guests and prospects.  The emphasis of these visits was evangelism and enrollment in Sunday School. The project will include preaching an eleven-week series of sermons on Sunday mornings that focus on five biblical functions and four specific needs of the church.  The functions and needs include evangelism, discipleship, fellowship, ministry, worship, commitment, organization, vision, and prayer.  In addition, a series of lessons will be taught on Wednesday nights that focus on the same functions and needs. However, the Wednesday lessons will differ from the Sunday sermons by highlighting different aspects.  A better understanding of the functions and needs should result in developing effective ministries. The aim of the series is to present the need for a shift in ministry focus that leads the church to revitalization and both spiritual and numerical growth.  New ministry options will be explored and examined by a Task Force. This strategic plan began with designing the building to be user friendly and effective in this culture. Transitional strategies prepared the congregation for change. The design and program were driven by Cornerstone's mission. Seven key events provided the structure for marketing and inviting new people. New systems and teams were created or renewed in preparation for this new era of ministry. A lay mobilization process and assimilation method was put into place to integrate people and build disciples. A staffing plan was implemented in the process. This study accepted that connection and investigated whether or not a connection existed between church growth and sermon schedule planning based upon primarily the Revised Common Lectionary.  The hypothesis of the study was, the use of the Lectionary as the primary tool for determining sermon schedule planning is not the most beneficial for church growth.  Measurement of church growth was 1.0 percent increase/decline in average worship attendance over a three to four year period.  Personal interviews conducted with thirty preachers inquired about sermon scheduling, preparation and motivation.  Statistical information on attendance came from conference journals.  The preachers and churches studied all pertain to the Kentucky Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. The findings of the study could not conclusively support or refute the hypothesis.  The findings did support a strong connection between sermon scheduling at least a month in advance and increased worship attendance.  Rick Warren's purpose driven church principles were found to be a positive influence upon growing churches in the annual conference. Popular church growth plans often are not applicable or conducive to such a setting and often have cataclysmic results for the church and pastor. This plan is adapted and curtailed to meet the needs of the subculture of the church while being faithful to its evangelical heritage. The step-by-step plan is given with the results, positive and negative. A discovery that a generation of members was missing from elected leadership led to generational insights and how adding this generation to leadership impacted the church. Decisions concerning building, staff, and contemporary worship also impacted growth.  Research isolated four paramount factors in the church: predominance of prayer, pastoral leadership, drawing four generations into leadership, and unity throughout the congregation. The strategy model described in the current edition of The Project in Ministry Design Handbook of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary was utilized for this project report. Additional purposes of this project were to develop and accomplish project goals and professional goals to strengthen the project director’s strategy development and professional leadership. The project director researched local demographics and cultural dynamics of the Lakeview community to determine ministry tartes for multiethnic church growth. Existing models of churches that include all culture and ethnicities were then explored to determine best practices.
