Five hypotheses guided this study: people from the mother church leave to plant the new church; church planters have a relationship with the mother church before starting a new church; daughter churches are planted locally in relation to the mother church; daughter churches are financially supported by the mother church for a period of time; and the people from the daughter church fully support the church planter. The hypotheses were supported by the literature and case study. As a result of these case studies, seven principles surfaced. The first principle is finding the 'right' person. Without the 'right' person, the rest of the principles do not matter. Principle number two is assessment, which verifies that he, is indeed the 'right' person for the job. Principle number three is the five percent rule: every new church that is planted will give five percent of its offerings to an escrow account for a minimum of three years. This is where the money comes from to plant new churches. Principle number four is partnering for the purpose of sharing resources. Principle number five is that a church plant becomes a fully functional church on its launch day, which allows the bookkeeping systems of the church to include paying the salary of the church planter from day one. Principle number six is raising support, which takes the pressure off the church planter to raise his full salary. Principle seven is networking, which makes partnering easier and contributes to the nonfinancial support of the planters. It is hoped that these principles will work to make a difference in the way churches are started and that they will be tested in different places by other networks of churches that desire to create movements of church planting churches."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130058766680064,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:25:34.389Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:11:33Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:03:12Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"8137f0ed-f81e-4c25-8890-6b4d9a327adf","accessControl_ssim":["20899404-df8d-4ab4-b1b3-0ce7c8e8b162"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Avoiding narrative collapse: how the story of Gum Spring United Methodist Church guides it to the future"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:11:32Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:56:40Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["d6aa172f-6b99-4aef-a927-1f4cd84eafcd"],"hasLease_ssim":["a86c3f1c-6e48-4e69-8576-bb20c5bb0694"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Lewis A Parks"],"year_tesim":["2010"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Sonrise was planted in 2003 and is located in the western section of Mobile County. This area of Mobile is growing rapidly with a variety of homes ranging from starter homes from young families to high end custom-built homes for the more affluent. With all of this growth in the community, Sonrise is experiencing steady growth. In spite of the present growth, the project director sees a need to establish a systematic plan to maintain healthy church growth through prayer, evangelism, and discipleship. The project director will evaluate community data, do research in historical and contemporary church growth, and do research in the current organizational structure of Sonrise. Surveys indicated a positive attitude toward sharing personal testimonies."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791125737184428032,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:16:53.007Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:00:20Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:59:34Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"68b6350e-5bb2-438b-ad58-4f77cf5dfc77","accessControl_ssim":["8c3b7e81-6882-4935-8f39-7c4ac8dce116"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A narrative process for change at Trumbull Congregational Church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:00:20Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:11:59Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["138e8d61-4e72-4681-ab4f-6d3abe07ce63"],"hasLease_ssim":["d3c505f9-7d62-4b91-b438-7b9f425a6bcb"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Hartford Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["James Nieman"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Matthew B Braddock"],"publisher_tesim":["Hartford Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Trumbull Congregational Church","Church growth","Church membership"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["People encounter reality in ways that seem outside the scope of an organization's dominant narration. The author followed this parish from a time of low self-esteem to a position of vitality and less dependence on the diocese. The tool used to observe this change in this parish was ethnographic research and a focus on intentionality of worship, tradition, spirituality and story. The author finds that often change and chaos can be a positive element in the process of the growth and self-esteem that is necessary to move from maintenance to mission."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799718282656219136,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:31:42.936Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:53:33Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:12:22Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"fbfe5a1d-53ba-4af0-b538-0bdedd7d33ef","accessControl_ssim":["02c5f4de-cf8f-4301-9923-5f4f5f5db803"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Effective use of the office of the district superintendent to encourage helathy disciple-making churches"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:53:33Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T05:19:52Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["473b7674-24f8-46d0-9baf-326e16fe15f4"],"hasLease_ssim":["f81dae42-f180-4681-9a3d-74636cfbc961"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Lovett H Weems"],"year_tesim":["2008"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Five churches were chosen, pastors of these churches became a part of a study group, mentors were assigned to each church, mentors became a part of a district vitalization team.
